Halloween Pop Up

Don't you just love Halloween? I'm a Secret Halloween Lover. I never dress up, but I always want to. The kids and I always talk about what kind of costumes we could get that would work for the whole family. Last year we almost got me the Cruella Deville Costume and Dalmatian suits for the kids...hubby would have had to be a Henchman! Then, we expanded on our little game and laughed about how funny it would be to get little Dalmatian coats for all the kids we go Trick-or-Treating with - there are about 10.

Wouldn't we be the funniest site, me with my white and black hair and long coat like Cruella, Hubby dressed like one of my Henchmen and 10 little Dalmatians running door to door looking for candy! Too Funny. But alas, I was just Mom for Halloween, Dad was just Dad and the kids were both Princesses.

But, on to my card for today. I have to admit, this was my first Pop Up card ever...and I was so scared! But really, there was no reason, it was so simple to make! First I followed some great instructions from a tutorial over on Splitcoast Stampers to make the card and tag. Then, I stamped out some pumpkins from my Pumpkin Face Mix-N-Match stamp set on Orange Paper.

I stamped my sentiment from the same set and started cutting my DP to fit. I cut out the pumpkins and coloured the stems with my Copic Markers. Then I stamped the cut little faces on them. Finally, I layered the pumpkins using PopDots so that they look like they're sitting in front of eachother.

I've also included a picture of the card once it has been opened. You can see how the pumpkins are popped out on this shot, and where the sentiment is hiding. This was a really fun card to make, and so much easier than I thought...sometimes we all need to think a little outside the box to get the best results and today I am a perfect example. Thanks for looking!

Simple Halloween

Happy Friday!  Sorry it's been so long since I posted, I'm having a bit of a "early thirties crisis", and am having trouble focusing and getting things organized.  It's not nearly as awful as it sounds really.   I've been doing a lot of reading in the past 2 months (oh my, has it only been 2 months?) and I'm totally amazed at the things that I am discovering about who I am and who I always wanted to be.

I don't think it's a secret among my close friends that married with kids working a desk job is exactly where I always said I would never be.  That took a few years to discover...but discovering what I'm passionate about is a whole new journey.  And, I have to say that I am surprised at how reading has helped me to start to uncover who I am and who I want to be.

You're probably wondering what the heck I'm reading.  Well, I'm not ashamed to same that I'm reading Twilight Fan Fiction.  Go ahead, say it....WHAT?  There is a whole website where people submit their stories with the same characters as Twilight but the stories are totally different. It's more about the stories I'm reading that about Twilight.  This site is monitored by editors and only projects deemed "good enough" get in, so I'm guaranteed some quality in the writing and story lines.   I really enjoy the one's where everyone is human, so totally not like Twilight.  Anyway, the more I read, the more I want to write.  I have a story line playing around in my head, but I haven't had the opportunity to write it down.

But, how do I add writing to my current list of things to do?  Lord only knows!  For now, it's going down on my list of "Things To do" along with learning to play the piano, taking singing lessons, acting in a play (in front of an audience) and taking a vacation alone with the hubby.  Whew!  If you read this far, I hope I haven't scared you off.  I think we're all a work in progress and today I feel like I've been making some forward progress this week, so I wanted to share.

And, I have a card to share too.  This simple Halloween card used Frightful Halloween from the The Rubber Cafe.  The paper is from Making Memories.  I use some Bazzill Cardstock that came with the scallopped edge.  Great stuff.  If you're still with me, thanks for reading.  I hope you have a great day!

Happy Halloween - Rubber Cafe Style!

Hi, it's been a while...not even a week, but Wendy at work keeps bugging me to put up some new stuff!  LOL!  I have new stuff, but I was having problems getting Blogger to load my photos.  All seems to be fixed now, so on to the reason you came.
Oh my, I cannot say enough good things about the great stamps that I get to use from the Rubber Cafe.  They stamp beautifully, even the Acrylic ones...images are crisp and lines fill in nicely.  When the sets Trick or Treat and Pumpkin Face Mix-N-Match came to me, I was so excited.  First, I used the sentiment from Pumpkin Face Mix-N-Match to stamp out the background...quick and easy!  Then, I stamped the images on Neenah paper and coloured them in with my copics.  Of course, I tried 4 different colour combo's before I liked his little shirt (you'll see the cast off's on other cards, they were still good, just not right for this card).  I used a sketch from Mojo Turns 100 - I used Day 6.
I have so much more to show you...and the hubby and I have worked out a schedule so that I can work on my projects a few days a week...rather than staying up to all hours of the night trying to get stuff done!   I'll also have time to load to the blog...and maybe even schedule a few posts.  Can't wait to show you what I've been up to!

Frightening!

Hey everyone, it's Wednesday! Now, normally this wouldn't be any special day, but I'm happy because starting Friday I'm on holidays from work for a week and then the kids start school! School cannot come fast enough! And, in the spirit of all the impending celebrations, I broke out my new stamps from The Rubber Cafe and made a Halloween card.

The images that I received are just awesome and I'm having so much fun making Halloween items, not just cards. Check this out, it's a card featuring the Bat Motel from The Rubber Cafe. I also used the Frightful Halloween stamp.
First, I coloured the image with my copics (okay, I coloured 3 before I got one that I liked, but I knew you all were going to like this one too!), and then used one of my cast-offs to create a mask of the house. I used a sponge and 2 different blue inks to create the night sky. Something that I discovering with my copics - 'cause I've only had them 6 months and the learning curve is huge - is that if I wait a few minutes and then use the same colour again I can get some great shadowing/darkening. Take a look at my moon...only 1 copic used there, but the bottom is brighter...can you see it?
So, how does one get inspired to make Halloween cards in the middle of the summer (other than great Halloween stamps from The Rubber Cafe?) Twilight Music of course...not to dark, a little edgy, thinking of Edward. LOL! I'm slowly converting from a country music fan to a - I'm not sure what it's called - fan. Anyone else out there love Paramore?
