Hats! Glorious Hats!

Okay, so this post has nothing Papercraft related...but that's because I was exhausted yesterday and instead chose to lounge in bed reading.  Tonight, I'll be back in the scrap room.  However, I have been promising to show pictures of the hats I've been knitting, and I finally managed to get the pictures, so here it goes.

If you haven't heard the story before, the little one has a funny sized head, too small for a children's hat and too big for a toddler size hat.  Not a big deal when the weather is balmy, but when the wind is whipping and it's -20, an ill fitting hat can really be a problem.  So, in an effort to solve the problem, I pulled out my knitting needles and some wool and went to work.  In two short evenings, I produced Hat #1
Not a bad hat, eh!?  Except that it isn't quite long enough and if she has a pony-tail in her hair, it creeps up around her ears and they get cold.  So, off to the internet I go in search of a hat with ear flaps.  4 not so short nights later, I presented her with Hat #2

Uh, oops?!  It's a little bit too big.  Haha!  So, back to the drawing board I go, but this time I got smart 'cause this too big for the little kid hat fits the big kid just fine!  I altered the pattern slightly, knit less rows and voila!  Hat #3

A happy kid, with warm ears.  Now, as Murphy's Law dictates, the weather has been near or above freezing during the days here for almost a week.  So, the hat isn't quite as necessary as it was 3 weeks ago when I started this adventure.  However, this is our home town and everyone knows Winter isn't over yet!

My next knitting adventure will be much longer.  About 2 years ago I bought some really chunky wool and some big fat needles and knit a scarf.  To bad for me it's too itchy to actually be worn as a scarf (ever sweated in your snowsuit with a scarf scratching your neck?).  So, I've decided to make a few more scraves and then I'll sew them together and have myself a very warm throw!  Ingenious I tell you.

If you've made it this far, I hope you've enjoyed my little adventure as much as I have.  We now return to our regularly scheduled Papercrafting! :)

I love your hats and your patience! Anything I start to knit never leaves the knitting needles! As for sewing, my cards look great but fabric sits in boxes!
